The story and the mural live on.....

..but the blog officially signs out.

In 1847, a community united saved lives. In 2009-2010, a community working together created an outside mural to depict the courage and bravery their history. The Sanctuary and Deliverance Mural Project and the Minority Coalition agree that more can be accomplished when we work together for the go                               In the words of Marianne Williamson--
“In every community there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.”

Cass County, MI is fortunate to have a large pool of collective Underground Railroad history.
The stories of freedom seekers, their neighbors and Friends, are still being discovered through generational farms, Cassopolis Courthouse records, an active historic African-American church with a historian, a large archaeological dig, oral traditions, recent movements to collect family info, the establishment of the Underground Railroad Society of Cass County, and the acquisition of the Bonine House. To connect or reconnect with this area, please contact the sponsors of the mural project: the Minority Coalition of Cass County at 248-535-1495, and leave a message.

As Project Director, I wish to thank the artist catalyst, adjunct artists, scholars, Minority Coalition, Michigan Humanities Council, Underground Railroad Society of Cass County: www.urscc.org. & all our volunteers! Thanks to God for keeping us safe on the scaffolding, stirring our hearts, helping us reach-out to others, uniting us through prayer, and being with us and our ancestors. I hope many will come and see this statement of faith in Cass County, MI. MK

”Love is so much larger than anything I can conceive. It may be the element that keeps the stars in the firmament.” Maya Angelou
